Clinton Therapy & Testing Center in Clinton, New York, is dedicated to providing help to children, adolescents, and families in the Mohawk Valley community with psychological, emotional, behavioral, and relationship difficulties. Founded in Rome, New York, in 1985, the business expanded and then moved to Clinton in 1999. Staff members include licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors, and psychiatric nurse practitioners – most of whom have practiced mental health services for a decade or more.

Lora Abraham, a longtime employee of Clinton Therapy & Testing Center, came to the Mohawk Valley SBDC having reached a tentative purchase agreement with the owner of the business. Abraham requested a review of the business’s finances, assistance with creating financial projections, and a review of her business plan.

The business experienced several changes as a result of COVID, including increased demand for their services, staffing changes, and the temporary suspension of in-person counseling. Steffen worked with Abraham to analyze the effects of these changes and their impact on the future of the business, and then developed financial projections reflecting the business’s growth and the changing landscape of the mental health industry.

Using the business plan and financial projections developed with advisor Steffen, Abraham secured the funding needed to purchase the business and retain its 8 employees. Abraham is excited for the future of Clinton Therapy & Testing Center and the important role it will continue to play in the mental health services industry in Central New York.

“Working with the SBDC was seamless, from initial contact, zoom meetings, putting together financial projections to the final business plan. The support and final product were professional and high quality; even the bank commented on this in review of the business plan. I would recommend working with the SBDC to anyone looking to get support in starting a business.”
