Hello Reader!
I have two questions for you to ponder over this week. . . .
Are you the person you want to be?
and
Are you the person you need to be?
I know that it might seem a little strange to think about these types of questions at first but I urge you to really take the time to think about them. . . .
Here’s why:
I was reading an interesting article this morning about T-Mobile CEO John Legere.
When John Legere took the position at T-Mobile as CEO he was no stranger to the world of high powered business. He had previously held many executive positions in other companies and most recently sold his last company Global Crossing Limited for $3 Billion Dollars.
Needless to say, running a business was nothing new for him.
Something you might notice that was new for John was the way he looked. . . .and acted.
He is almost unrecognizable.
When John took the position at T-Mobile he new that he was going to have to make a lot of changes to get the company back on track.
But in order to make the changes necessary he would first have to make changes in himself.
You see
John Legere knew that the man he currently was could not take T-Mobile to where it needed to go.
He knew that he first needed to become the man that will take T-Mobile to all new heights before he cold actually take it there.
So he did just that.
At 50+ years old John Legere completely reinvented who he was – to become the man he needed to be.
The tech industry is a young, hip and vibrant community . . .
His clean pressed suit and newly shined shoes were not going to fly anymore.
T-Mobile was struggling to keep up with it’s high powered competitors AT&T and Verizon. . .
His well spoken, polite and by the book take on business was not going to work.
T-Mobile and it’s 50,000+ employees were in need of a connection with it’s leader
So John made a point to invite every employee every time he spoke and kept a calendar of all the dates he could visit each one of T-Mobile’s locations
He needed to stir things up and he did just that
John adopted a wardrobe of loud vibrant colors
He grew his hair out longer than it had ever been before
He found a knack for elegantly using profanity and witty insults to get a rise out of the media and his competitors.
In what seemed to be overnight the NEW John Legere became the face and the brand of the NEW T-Mobile.
Guess what?
It worked!
John’s rise to stardom among employees and eventually young consumers resulted in T-Mobile becoming the fastest growing U.S. carrier.
So again I ask you. . .
Is the person that you are today the person you need to be to take you to the places you want to go?
If you answered No.
Maybe it’s time to make a CHANGE . . .
